Tomorrow is the special day that our country celebrates its freedom and independence. You guessed it; Candy Parade Day. Yes that’s what my kids call the 4th of July. Candy Parade Day is that special day that everyone dresses in red, white, and blue and goes down to Main Street to get bombarded with candy. Is this phenomenon happening all over the country? When did parades start showering buckets of unwanted candy on unsuspecting families?
Isn’t the fun of going to the parade, call me old fashioned- watching the parade? The fun is taking joy in moment? Soaking up the excitement of the crowd, hearing the band music, seeing colorful fun floats, fancy old cars? Isn’t this what makes a parade fun? Um no. now a days It’s the candy. Every parade participant throws candy. Our kids went to a 20 minute parade and each one left with a pound of candy. The kids didn’t even see the actual parade they just watched the candy scatter across the street towards their feet. They basically saw nothing above their knees.
I mean isn’t the 4th of July the one sacred holiday that doesn’t revolve around over eating and too much candy? Halloween is a four week sugar coma, Thanksgiving; the mother-of-all eating holiday, Christmas; Don’t get me started on Christmas; friend parties, family parties, school parties, Christmas stockings, Then the heart shaped chocolate eating holiday…Valentine’s Day. Not to be out sugared by Easter, with Easter Egg hunts, Easter baskets, and life sized chocolate bunnies. Now the candy parade! Actually we went to two candy parades. We were supposed to go to three, but I couldn’t stand it anymore! Let’s just hook the kids to a high fructose corn syrup IV and be done with it.
Okay rant over.

Summer So Far
Remember me? I used to write a blog. Since we last spoke on a regular basis I have changed some things in my life. First of all it is summer, the kids have been released from school, and my 2.5 free hours 3 days a week have been snuffed out. I haven’t been to Curves in over a week and I am wearing bathing suits. What’s up with that? Two days ago I was on a beach eating chips. So wrong! Oh and there are bathing suit pictures on Facebook. But, not for long.
While not stuffing my face while squeezed into a bathing suit I have been trying hard to correctly discipline Alice. Apparently letting her have her run of the house AKA her reign of terror, is not the way to go. I have been working hard to keep her on her visual schedule, ignoring her when she is behaving badly, and staying calm and emotionless when she starts to flip out. Alice has been a lot better behaved… I on the other hand am emotionally exhausted and spending more time eating junk food to calm my nerves. But, we already talked about that.
I am still selling stuff on EBAY. Cute vintage jewelry stuff if you want to check it out my buyer name is LydiaDustin. The EBAY is taking up all of my computer time. Finding the stuff, taking pictures, writing descriptions, all of the time spent praying that the items actually sell. Then if they do sell, there is the packing and all of the trips to the post office. OK so I like going to the post office. I love to show my treasures to the post office lady.
I am also spending a lot of family fun time. Kid’s have fun- mom and Dad work-mostly mom… Dad helps out a lot too and he is so cute. In the last couple of weeks we’ve been camping in Maine, Beaching on Cape Cod, Plymouth, P-Town swimming in town ponds, Tomorrow is the Amusement park. Have to go to bed now. Get up early.
That’s my life in a nut shell.
