Summer Swim

Lydia's brain is on summer vacation. She is trying to get it back. She plans to try and trap it tomorrow with some Twinkies, tin foil and a butter fly net. Right now she needs sleep. Being a single parent blows. I don't know how all of you moms do this.

Insomnia

I am exhausted so what am I doing up at 11:51pm watching the Jonas Brother on TV? Am I secretly a closet cougar? Not. I am down here in the living room under duress. You see Dave has to get up at 4:00am to catch a plane tomorrow morning. So of course Alice is acting up and refusing to go to bed. Do you know what happens when Alice gets upset? My sweet little Muppet turns into the bride of Chucky. Screaming, crying, stamping her feet, well you know the drill. Did I mention that since this heat wave started that Alice has been sleeping on the floor in my room? Yes, she’s been there for three weeks now. Our room is the only air conditioned bedroom. So Dave went out to buy the kids air conditioners for their rooms. But, now Alice refuses to return to her room. I have let her stay hoping to transition her back. I know I have a lot of bad parenting going on over here. Can I blame it on the heat? It makes me crazy. She has never had trouble sleeping in there before.


Can you picture the scene? Dave in the bed trying to sleep getting madder and madder, Alice is on the floor whining and crying, and I am in the middle trying to calm them both down. I was like a psychotic ping pong ball being beat down by two nutty paddles.

I had to drag my screaming daughter down the stairs. I finally calmed her down. By turning giving her a snakc and turning on the Disney channel….I know I am making bad parenting cecisions, but I can't wake up Dave....3 hours and 15 minutes past her bed time.

Now it is 5 hours past her bed time and she is still wide awake! I am fading like my sun burnt garden. I have suffered through the Jonas Brother and two full episodes of Hannah Montana. I am sure that we’ll still be up at 4:00am to wake up Dave for his plane.
