Lydia Dustin

This page accuses Lydia "Dasting" Dustin (back then spelling wasn't standardized or important). I didn't realize that I shared the name of an accused Salem witch until I was almost 30 years old. I was named after Lydia Dustin born in the 1800’s my mother's great-great-grand mother. This Lydia Dustin was named after her great-great-great-great grandmother Lydia Dustin born in 1690’s who I believe, but can’t prove was named after Lydia Dustin of Reading who was accused of being a Salem witch an died in prison. She was a crazy old widow who lived with Sarah Goode.  I mean how many people lived in northern Massachusetts at that time with the sir name Dustin? Also Lydia has never been a popular name not even back then. Why would my relative and 8 or 9 times great-grand-mother Hannah Dustin name her next girl child (who was born after the trials) Lydia, if not for honoring her lost relative? For this reason I love witches and I love Halloween…ok and candy. It could just be all of the candy….
