DENNIS — Alice Barton, 80, of Dennis, passed away surrounded by her loving family on Sunday, June 17, 2012, at home.
Alice often told us that she was thankful for her wonderful life; she was blessed with an abundance of love. She wasn't afraid to be with her God in Heaven, she simply wanted to spend more time with her beloved husband of 25 years, Millard Cramp.
She is also survived by her devoted daughters Margaret Gormley of Hyannis and Lydia Kirchthurn, and her husband David, and the joys of her life her grandchildren Alice and Dylan, of Franklin, MA; her sister Sr. Mary Charlotte Barton GNSH, of Yardley PA; brother David Barton and his wife Yasuko, of San Jose, CA; sister, Pat Hartley and her husband Tom, of Plainville, MA, Sister Charlotte McGuire (now deceased), her huband Robert, from Dallas TX, brother James Barton and wife Carol, of Plymouth, MA; sister Mary Morais, of Chelmsford, MA; and cousin Linda Teuwen and her husband Hank, of Yarmouth, MA.
Professor, author, poet, philanthropist, peace activist, mentor, aunt, cousin, sister, mother, wife, and friend, Alice inspired so many, we marveled at her brilliance, her passion for living, thankful to bear witness to her exceptional life. She mothered us all filling our cups before her own, even leaving us comfort at the time of her own death.
BEYOND OCTOBER'S GLOW
"This late September swim will carry me through the deep winter beyond October's glow. I will float belly up past chill, past frost, past snow worshiping the clear blue September sky. Then I will dive down into the cool water. Savor its blessing, and bathed by salt balm, swim past icebergs, past glaciers, past frozen oceans into the full spring on the other side."
—Alice Barton

Dear Lydia,
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful tribute to your mother. I hope my children will have felt the depth of my love for them the way you have felt your mothers.
I was blessed to have such a mother like yours. She passed away 9 years ago and I still miss her. Someone gave me this poem when she went of be with Jesus and I wanted to share it with you.
If Roses grow in Heaven

If Roses grow in Heaven
Lord, please pick a bunch for me.
Place them in my Mother's arms
and tell her they're from me.
Tell her that I love her and miss her,
and when she turns to smile,
place a kiss upon her cheek
and hold her for awhile.
Because remembering her is easy,
I do it every day,
but there's an ache within my heart
that will never go away.
Dear Lydia, don't worry about your house or your kids eating cereal 3 times a day...for awhile. You need to grieve the loss of your momma. It will take a while because she was so wonderful. I pray for comfort for you and your family. Keep writing. I love you posts.
